Grade 30 can be marked 28, 3, 30 or simply have no markings at all. There may be a letter before the number (like D3 or D30) which is usually a manufacturer’s ID code. G30 chain is made from Low Carbon Steel (except for stainless steel).

Self Colored – also known as SC (for self colored; the chain’s manufacturing process is complete after it gets welded), Shot Peened (a shot blast cleaning technique used by the manufacturers after the welding process), BP (for bright polished; a cleaning technique used by the manufacturers using a tumbler after the welding process)

Grade 30 Proof Coil Surface Finishes - Zinc Plated

Zinc Plated – otherwise known as ZP, EG or Electro Galvanized which provides a modest rustproofing but is shiny and is great for retail

Grade 30 Proof Coil Surface Finishes - Hot Dip Galvanized

Hot Dip Galvanized – otherwise known as HDG or Hot Galvanized and provides the best rust proof coating of the three
